What is an Adverb? Part 1
An ADVERB is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
Here’s some examples:
adjective form adverb form
1) happy happily
2) clear clearly
3) close closely
4) dear dearly
5) perfect perfectly
Of course, not all adverbs in in “ly” as the following list demonstrates:
1) here 6) now 11) then
2) also 7) often 12) there
3) hard 8) quite 13) very
4) much 9) right 14) too
5) never 10) soon
Adverbs tell you “When?” Where?” “How?” “Why?”
“How much?” Or “To What Extent?”
Abbi will be here at midnight. (Be where? Answer – Here)
The adverb “here” modifies the verb “be”.
Samantha made a really good cheesecake. (How good? Answer – Really good)
The adverb “really” modified the adjective good.
Isabella writes quite well for a 16-year old.
The adverb “quite” modifies another adverb “well”.
